Dear Mom and Dad-
Living in Australia the past month has been incredible! I’ve already experienced so much and learned a great deal about myself in just four weeks. Despite being really sick the majority of the month with a plethora of illnesses, I have still managed to enjoy myself and all that the Gold Coast has to offer! But, with that being said, this past weekend was by far the most incredible and one that I will cherish for the rest of my life. But before you read any further, I would just like to say I’m sorry. I hope you don’t decide to put me up for adoption after reading this.
I spent this past weekend in a beautiful beach side town called Byron Bay, located in northern New South Wales. Complete with crystal clear waters, mountainous horizons, kitschy little shops, and sweet hippie vibes, Byron Bay was incredibly picturesque, making it the perfect spot for a weekend getaway! Although you knew I had this trip booked, I wasn’t exactly honest about my reasoning to go to Byron Bay. You see, while you thought I was sitting by the beach, I was actually jumping out of a perfectly good plane- the one thing you cautioned me NOT to do before I moved to Australia.
The free fall was breath taking- literally. Not only could you not breathe properly since you’re falling at 190mph, but the views of the hilly landscape and turquoise waters were absolutely unreal. I actually pinched myself while I was falling because I couldn’t believe how incredible it felt. I had never felt so alive.
All I can say is, this will certainly not be the last time I fall from sky. I can hardly wait to go again. Perhaps maybe next month in New Zealand?
Saturday was moderately safer than Friday’s activities. Early in the morning around 8am, myself and some friends took a boat about to the beautiful Julian Rocks to check out the marine life. We did some incredible snorkeling/ low key diving and got to see some sharks, sea turtles and schools of colorful fish.
Not going to lie- seeing a 10ft shark was definitely anxiety inducing, but so friggin cool! The thing couldn’t have given less of a shit that we were all there swooning over it though.
Today was my last day in beautiful Byron, but it was a day well spent. My friend Kiana and I got an early start and went out for a surf this morning. Conditions were pretty weak today, but it was still so great to be out there soaking up the sun and enjoying the frigid waves.
After hitting the waves, I had one more thing I wanted to accomplish before my thrill-filled weekend came to a close. It was something I had been considering for quite some time, and I thought to myself “if there were ever a time to do it in my life, it would be now.” So, I took the plunge and got my first tattoo- oops.
So, I’m sure by now you probably want to disown me, just as you promised you would if I ever came home with a tattoo, but I promise this will be the one and only- promise.
Byron Bay stole a piece of my heart, and I will remember it fondly whenever I glance down at the little airplane on my side. I love you both endlessly.
Love, your wild child daughter,
